Takeaways
- Hyundai's Creta compact SUV continues to experience strong demand; in fact, it was the only vehicle in its class to surpass 10,000 sales in July. Even though its market share decreased by more than 4.5 percent year over year (YoY), it still held the majority last month by a margin of more than 42 percent.
- With sales of more than 8,500 units, the Kia Seltos came in second. The only models in this segment to outperform their six-month sales average were the SUV from Kia and its Hyundai cousin.
- In July, Mahindra shipped nearly 4,000 units of the final Scorpio. The Scorpio was one of three SUVs in this market to still have a market share in double digits even though its month-over-month (MoM) sales decreased by almost 8%. Please be aware that Scorpio N deliveries will start in September, and the Scorpio Classic will make its debut by the middle of August.
- The Kushaq and Taigun, two compact SUVs from Skoda and Volkswagen, were positioned below the Scorpio, and even their combined sales fell short of those of the Mahindra SUV.
- With nearly 1,400 units sold, the MG Astor trailed the Taigun by a significant margin. Its MoM figure decreased by almost 17%.
- The MoM figure for Nissan's small SUV, the Kicks, fell by more than 50%, making it the most negatively impacted model of the group (from those presently in production and on sale)
- The Grand Vitara, Maruti's new small SUV that will replace the S-Cross and go on sale in September, has been unveiled. The latter's production has thus ended, and as a result, its sales were zero.
- Toyota's Urban Cruiser Hyryder will compete in the event in August.
